I’m sitting under a whirling ceiling fan in the third floor office in our little Philadelphia rowhouse. I may have to declare happy hour a bit early, because I just uploaded the conclusion of my manuscript—the final piece—to the press’s upload site. This is one item on my list I’ve been particularly eager to cross off!
In an effort to practice what I preach, I’ve started by own personal website and blog. As a budding professional in the budding field of digital history, I’ve spent a lot of time trying to convince others of the merits of strategically sharing content in digital formats. It’s about time I do it myself.
I’m embarking on a lot of changes in the near future as I leave my beloved job at Night Kitchen and begin teaching digital history, global history, and American material culture (surely among other things) at West Chester University. I will transition from helping others create and share meaningful digital content in accessible, intuitive ways and start opening the eyes of students to the world of digital history. I will also leave a firm at which information designers and developers do a lot of the tough stuff and I will have to figure out how to make things happen on my own. As such, this website is the next step in my own education.
